Vintage Angelika

I

think I was 13 or 14 when I did this. Evan found it the other day snooping around in my room. But Cardiogirl's post about confidence reminded me of it.

Was I not a snot back then?

LMFAO!

But I was 100% serious.

I know you love my supermodel look...

It's true, I forgot all about House on Monday

Hugh Laurie Doorway

E

arlier today (Tuesday) I got a comment from someone asking me what song was playing at the end of Monday's episode of House.

My reply was "Last night was a repeat so I didn't watch it. I don't know what episode you saw."

Then one of my JJHF Peeps told me she saw last nights episode and "someone died in their apartment. Cuthbert or something. Was it Kumar?"

My response was "I have no idea what you're talking about. Cutner (Kumar) is still alive so far. I know someone is supposed to die this season, though."

So I looked at my DVR recordings.

There was a new House that recorded last night and Evan and I BOTH forgot to watch it. Last week was a repeat and since so many other shows seem to be on Spring Break this week, I guess I just assumed that House was too.

Didn't even think about it, LOL.

But I have watched it now.

I'm happy for Kal Penn doing what he wants to do and working for Obama, but it sucks that Kutner's gone because I really liked him. I would have preferred that Taub left.

Meatloaf AdayAnyway, I really wasn't that interested in last night's show. Compared to others this season, it was just kind of "blah".

But I did learn that Meat Loaf has a last name. It's Aday. Freaky.

That is all.

I have to go watch Fringe & whatnot. :-)

All kinds of junk that I'm posting ahead of time

S

o I won't forget. :-)

High Fives from last week & this week or whatever. My folder is getting full, LOL. I think I was just in a "special" mood for the past week or so, so a lot of things that wouldn't ordinarily make me laugh or bookmark the post made the list. Not to take anything away from the peeps who did make the post.

Whatever. Here they be:

Skirmisher
Frozen Caribou

Obama Comics: Vol 1 No 2 - Who’s the Boss?
Kewl Stuff I Found: Oh Really?

Journal of a Rock Angel: The One that will make you smile

This weekend, I watched Kevin Hart: I'm a grown little man. I never knew he was this funny! I remember that he had a TV show for a minute and that I'd seen him on ComicView, but not much else.

His special on Comedy Central had me laughing so hard I was crying. I liked it better than Katt Williams' "Pimpin Pimpin" special.

Here's a clip:

The "Special" mood that I mentioned earlier had me ROTFLMFAO @ Kevin Hart and then seriously crying the next. I kept it under control because Evan was in the room with me. He thought I was just crying from laughing.

I need to go ahead and switch my anti-depressant NOW. I've know it for a while, but I hate going to the fucking doctor, LOL. *sigh* I'll make an appt for the next time he's in.

I'm switching back to ExForge or whichever one I loved so much but had to stop because it wasn't covered by my insurance. It's covered now, so YAY! I hope the effects lasts longer than 6 months, for real! I'm tired of having to switch my Anti Depressant so often. Fucking Multiple Sclerosis making my body react in insane ways to meds.

Did I tell you that I think IBUPROFEN is what's making me so sleepy? I get headaches, take Advil, pass out for 3 hours. ???

Nothing else has changed. I just finally put it together. So I can stop wasting my money on OTC sleeping pills trying to get to sleep. I'll just take Advil. It's not even Advil PM. Just regalurr ibuprofen.

Anyway, I noticed today that my ear percussion is gone.

All this health stuff is what made me decide to take the Stupid Blog Quiz. I don't think I'm a hypochondriac, but who knows?

You Are 20% Hypochondriac

While your physical health isn't always perfect, you don't freak out about it.

You know there's only so much you can do, and worrying doesn't change anything.

Anyway, here's one of my favorite clips from Katt Williams: Pimpin Pimpin

I'm out!

My momma took me out for my birthday lunch.

F

irst, we went to the pharmacy to get our free flu shots.

I felt a fake boob. They had something for women (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) to see if they could feel the...what do they call them? Nodules? Whatever. She said I was the fastest person to ever find one and that I was the only one to find both of them.

I wonder now if that's what fake boobs feel like...

After that, MD took me out for my birthday lunch at the Chinese Buffet. I tried Dim Sum for the first time. I should have taken pictures while I was there, but I forgot. They had the biggest goldfish I've ever seen. It was like 1/2 a pound, at least.

Anyway, the Dim Sum was like biting through plastic wrap to taste a barely sweet mushed up pinto bean.

It looked waaaaay prettier than it tasted. That picture isn't the exact one I tried, but it looks just like it.

I made MD try it. We both spit it into our napkins.

I wonder if the one I got just sucked, or if it's always like that?

I got Rick Rolled by my own iTunes...

"That's just the way it is" by Bruce Hornsby had been running through my mind all morning (no idea why) so I put on my 80s playlist. Then after "True" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart", Rick Astley started playing. :-)

I still like Rick Astley. I don't care what you say! And I miss his freakish dancing, LOL.

All About Eve

F

riday night Evan and I stayed up until at least 5 am. We were watching "The Others" with Nicole Kidman. I was falling asleep but the effing commercials were so loud and bright that I woke up every time there was a commercial break.

I saw "All About Eve" on the schedule (on TCM) & ended up taping it because of Bette Davis and it had 3½ stars. IMDb gives the plot as:
"An ingenue insinuates herself in to the company of an established but aging stage actress and her circle of theater friends."

The version I taped was black & white. But, thankfully, no commercials.

Oh.My.God.

If you can get past the overly dramatic acting in it (it was the '50s, after all) this is a really good story.

Cropped screenshot of Bette Davis from All About Eve.Image via WikipediaBette Davis plays Margo, a very successful Broadway actress. One day, her close friend Karen (played by Celeste Holm) sees a young woman standing outside the theater waiting for Margo. The girl, Eve (played by Anne Baxter), adores Margo. She comes to see every single performance of the play in which Margo is currently starring.

THE SAME NIGHT that Eve is introduced to Margo, she tells a sad story about the difficult life she's lead. Margo takes pity on her & lets Eve move INTO HER HOUSE.

Eve makes herself very helpful, almost indispensable. Margo's real "assistant" is very suspicious of Eve from the beginning. *insert ominous music here*

Not long after she starts managing Margo's affairs (business & personal) she sets up a midnight (4 am in NY) long distance call to Margo's boyfriend in California for his birthday. She "forgets" to tell Margo about it. She also sends the BF a telegram from herself & plans a birthday/welcome home party for the BF (I can't remember his name.) inviting people that Margo does not like. Margo finds out about the party during the midnight phone call.

Margo gets drunk at the party. She says some unpleasant things about "Sweet, innocent Eve" and BF & Karen stand up for Eve. At the party, Margo tries to get Eve a job working for someone else.

After the party, Karen sets it up so that Margo will miss her next performance and Eve can go on as her understudy.

'Somehow', the press and all kinds of people find out about Eve's performance.

One of the main "society" reporters in NY gives Eve a glowing review & basically accuses Margo, "the mature actress" of trying to hold the "fresh new talent" back. But he also asks her some trick questions about her background to be used for the purposes of blackmail later in the movie.

I think this movie could have been made today. It was great. In spite of the acting. In spite of the fact that Eve got slapped and reacted 2 seconds after the slap. In spite of being black & white. It is a little like a soap opera, but it's Bette Davis!

There's a cameo from Marilyn Monroe in the movie. A lot of the faces looked familiar to me, but when I looked at their resumes on imdb, I can't remember seeing anything else they might have been in with the exception of "The Twilight Zone" (wasn't everybody on that show at some point in their career back then???)

If you happen to see it on your DVR guide, check it out. It wasn't a Bette Davis movie the way that 'Baby Jane' was a Bette Davis movie. It is, after all, "All About Eve". But you will LOVE the ending. I certainly did. :-)

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

T

he other day at Wal-Mart, we got "Semi-Pro" with Will Ferrell (funny, but not as funny as Talladega Nights) and I wanted Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

I like Sci-Fi movies as long as they aren't produced by the Sci-Fi Network. All of those movies are cheesy & I only watch them when I've watched everything on my DVR and I don't feel like watching a "real" movie.

Of course, I've seen Jekyll/Hyde in "A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "Van Helsing", but this one didn't seem like it would be quite the same. For one thing, Hyde isn't gigantic. It's just a change in personality and mannerisms. Hyde is like... a homicidal Jack Sparrow, LOL.

I fell asleep the first time I tried watching it. But in defense of the movie, I had been up since 4 am that day. We had gone to the post office & Wal-Mart & done something else that required me to do more than lay on my bed or sit in this chair so I was tired.

I finally watched it last night.

It was good!

I like Dougray Scott. I remembered his face from somewhere, but I had to go to imdb.com to find out exactly where. He was Susan's BF on Desperate Housewives and he was Thandie Newton's Ex in Mission Impossible 2.

Anyway, the writer gave the Jekyll/Hyde story a different spin. He explained WHY Jekyll was doing those experiments. Dr. Jekyll had visited Africa or somewhere and met a witch doctor who said that a particular flower induced an altered state. Jekyll's interest was the possible connection between this 'other' personality and illness.

After there have been a few unsolved murders in the city, Dr. Jekyll thinks that he might have done them. He asks his closest friend, played by Tom Skerritt, to recommend a lawyer for him. Jekyll goes to her & confesses to the murders and says he wants to plead guilty and be sentenced right away with no trial.

So, of course, she just think Dr. Jekyll is crazy and doesn't believe his story without doing some investigation & research about multiple personalities.

One thing we find out in the story is that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have different DNA.

Yeah.

Same body, different DNA to go with the different personalities.

Yes, the ending was predictable, but I enjoyed the ride anyway. It's more interesting than any of the slasher flicks and most of the crap that is supposed to pass for "thrillers" these days. The only thing that sucked is that there are no captions. Not on the DVD, and the captions on my TV wouldn't work either. But you might hear better than I do, so that might not bother you.

Definitely rent it. :-)

High Five Friday - 6/6/08

Hello!

Here are this week's High Fives. Some are left over from last week because with all the effing remodeling NOT going on in my house, I haven't really been in the mood to blog. :-( Just in case you are wondering: NO, the cabinet is NOT up & the hole is still there. Yes, I'm still brushing my teeth in the bathtub, and YES, I refilled my xanax prescription...

Entyway, here be the ^5s. :-)

Wordscrawl. Because I found the Wacky News entertaining in addition to wacky.

JDonuts for the Terrible Resort Name because it cracked me the eff up!

On the Bricks because I enjoyed learning new & legal ways to get revenge. :-)

The Why File for The Most Bizarre Mugshots Ever. That first guy looks like Voldemort!

Skirmisher because I'd never seen Rubik's Cubes used in this way before.

Smells like Fruity Booty

T

he other day at Wal-Mart, I saw some new gum flavors. I got some Extra Fruit Sensations Berry Pearadise gum & some Mentos Gum. I didn't really pay attention to the flavors, I just knew that it was new and fruity. When we got home, Evan tried the Mentos (Red Fruit Lime) and I tried the Extra.

As I peeled the plastic wrapping off of the Extra Fruit Sensations, I got a whiff of something that instantly made me think of ass, only fruity. Like if I got drunk on Sloe Gin & shat myself, that's what it would smell like.

Gross, huh?

But since I'd bought it, I was going to try it.

I can say that it tastes much better than I had expected after the displeasing aroma. But that's not saying much...

The Mentos gum does not smell offensive, but the combination of red berries & lime leaves a lot to be desired.

I think Orbit's Mint Mojito (I think it's Orbit) is much better.

That is all. :-)

Fresh from the dentist clean

I

got a new toothbrush. The Colgate 360° Microsonic Toothbrush.

I'm always trying out new toothbrushes (every 3 months). Evan likes the battery operated kind. I get him the ones with music so he knows that he's brushed long enough.

I could never find one I really liked. Before this one, I tried the Crest Spinbrush Pro. I liked that you could change the heads without having to buy an entirely new toothbrush, but it wasn't really doing it for me. I liked the spinning, but I never really felt like I was getting my entire mouth. It didn't have the coverage that a manual toothbrush would have. And after I brushed my teeth, I'd feel plaque on my back teeth so I'd have to end up trying to get those with a manual toothbrush anyway.

The Colgate Microsonic is shaped exactly like a regular manual toothbrush, so I get the coverage that I want. When you push the little button on the front of the toothbrush, the "microsonic" power kicks in. It's like a little mouth massage. (Does that sound as bad as I think it does?)

Anyway, I love it. Evan wants one now, LOL.

That is all.

**Update** The toothbrush was less than $7 at my Wal-Mart. I don't know about the prices in other places. But I've noticed that I brush longer with this toothbrush because it feels so good. You can also replace the battery so if you're one of those people who use the same toothbrush for 20 years so that you can end up on Oprah, it's a one time investment, LOL.

NOW that's all. ;-)

Verminators

H

ave you ever seen Verminators on TLC (Mondays at 10pm EST)?

OH.MY.LORD! I watched this show the first time because nothing else was on. Basically, it's a reality show about exterminators. I admit that I have seen the occasional roach or spider in my house and I go directly to Wal-Mart & buy the Raid Foggers because those stories about kids with roaches in their ear have made me paranoid. I have the bug man come once a month, but so does MD. She sees the occasional roach too. And she's the most fastidiously clean person I know. I even had a mouse one particularly cold winter (before Al Gore ever told us about Global Warming or anyone had ever heard of El Niño). Killed that sumbitch with poison bait. Smelled like a dumpster in summer in my house until I found it dead and mummified in 'The Black Hole' (AKA 'The Closet That Shall Not Be Opened').

OMG. I ate a Taco Hot Pocket & I am having such bad heartburn right now but I'm too lazy to get up and get the Tums. This has nothing to do with roaches, mice or other vermin. But heartburn can be as irritating as vermin, so maybe it does. Whatever. I'm writing this in the middle of the night. Shaddap.

Back to the show.

So anytime I watch the show, I have to have some Anti-itch cream nearby because seeing people with DISGUSTING ROACH AND BED BUG INFESTED HOUSES MAKES ME ITCH SOMETHING TURRIBLE! I start "feeling" things crawling on me. *Shudder* I don't understand how people can live in conditions like that. WHY DON'T THEY DO SOMETHING BEFORE IT GETS THAT BAD?

Seriously. On the last show, some dude decided to brew his own beer. He had an infestation so bad that the owner (who, before going into the apartment said that nothing shocked him) came out of the apartment looking shell shocked. He told the other 2 men with him that it was the worst thing he'd ever seen or smelled. Not only did the dude have roaches, bed bugs, and black widows, but he had a hive of Africanized Bees in one of his closets.

Yes.

I shit you not.

WTF??????????

The dude was evicted. The landlord of that place only found out about the infestation because neighbors started complaining about a strange smell coming from that apartment.

Ewwwwwwwwwwww.

One of the exterminators threw up the place was so disgusting.

Well, he was going to throw up until he went to the bathroom and saw the toilet. I hope you're not eating right now. If you are, either stop eating or finish this post later.

The toilet looked like someone had had explosive diarrhea all.over.it. I'm getting queasy just thinking about it.

I can deal with a lot of filth and gore, but this show really is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen that didn't involve 2 whores and a chalice...

It amazes me that people can live in such squalor.

But I must watch it.

Because it makes me feel better about my lackadaisical attitude towards cleanliness, LOL.

High Five Fridays - 5/16/08

I

t's not quite Friday, but in the interest of having new content on a mostly daily basis, I'm posting this at noon yesterday. (HA! Wrap your head around that!)

1. Idiocrasies of the English Language. Take your pick of the posts, most of them are amusing. :-)

2. Steven Humour for this post and this post.

3. Found Shit for this post.

4. Slacker Heaven for the Boyfriend Remote. *sigh* If only it were real...

5. The Why File for this post which makes my back ache just looking at it!

6. Helmetti. She commented on my blog the other day. I didn't understand one syllable of what was written on her blog (it's Finnish), but she makes some beautiful jewelry!

7. Beeker for bringing my attention to a VERY odd website where they take pictures of Dads & their babies and switch the heads.

You've Been Warned

S

ince finishing "Brother Odd", I've been reading "You've Been Warned" by James Patterson & Howard Roughan. I really don't understand how this 2 authors on one book thing works (especially if it's fiction), but I'm about one third of the way through it (5/15 4:11 am), and it just feels like a Patterson book.

I can't put it down.

The only reason I'm up right now instead of sleeping is that I had been writing another Scheduled Post & my computer was acting "special" so I restarted it, but read for about 4 hours until I decided finally remembered that I hadn't finished the post. I needed to finish it while I was still in the same "writing mood".

I tell you, I'm so scatterbrained that half the time I don't even know what I'm saying.

:-)

Whatever.

Saddleback Valley Unified School District Buslady 01:17, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Image via WikipediaAfter Evan's on the school bus (or Cheese Wagon, as he calls it) and I pass out, I'll probably finish the book today.

Earlier today I washed dishes, cleaned the bathroom, did some laundry by myself and actually cooked dinner. Just Tuna Helper, but it involved me being in the kitchen with a burner on and the use of a measuring cup. So it counts!

I did all of this without the benefit of a "Head Shot" or caffeine. I don't know why that is...

One useful thing that I have discovered, though, is that I can read & watch the DVR crap I record at the same time. I just read through the commercials.

I'll talk about TV on a different post, though.

I have to get back to my book.

Angelika. Out.

Who knew that my mother was so afraid?!?!

Rotating brushes inside a conveyor car-wash.Image via Wikipedia

S

o last Friday, when I was reading Double Cross, MD stopped by. She wanted to watch Al Green on youtube & she asked if I wanted to ride with her to the grocery store after Evan got home from school.

I said sure.

Before we went to the grocery store, she said she wanted to try out the Automatic Car Wash because I told her that's what I use.

First of all, you can tell she's not used to putting bills into machines (like to get quarters for a dollar bill). She kept trying to shove the $10 bill into the machine.

Me - Give me the bill.
She - Here!

I took the bill & straightened it out for the machine and handed it back to her. She continued to try to shove it in.

Me - OMG. I'll do it!

I got out of the car & put the money in & paid for the Super Deluxe Wash.

Got back in the car.

Me - See that sign that says "Go"? Keep driving until it switches to "Stop".
MD - *Driving very slowly* Keep going?
Me - Keep going until it switches from "Go" to "Stop"
MD - *Hitting a speed bump type thing* OH! Was that supposed to happen?
Me - Yes. Keep going.
MD - *creeping forward at a snail's pace* Still?
Me - *Sigh* Yes. I'll tell you when to stop!

So she finally gets to the right place. The sign switched to "Stop"

Me - Stop.

*Machines get ready to start rinsing the car*

MD - *GASP!* Oh my God! Oh my God!
Me - What? *wondering if she's in pain*
MD - That scared me! You know I get vertigo.
Me - Oh. Well, when it rinses & washes the car, the car will move, but that is normal.

*rinse cycle starts*
MD - OMG! I can't watch! I have to close my eyes!
Me - *speaking very calmly* It's fine. This is all normal.
Evan - What? This is fun!
Me - *to Evan* Shut up.
MD - I couldn't do this alone! OMG!

So all through the wash & rinse & wax & dry I'm trying to keep MD from freaking out, trying to keep Evan from laughing at her, trying not to look at her like she'd lost her fucking mind just in case she opened her eyes to peep.

It was crazy!

We know she's afraid of snakes. She won't even watch them on TV. But I never knew that she'd be so afraid of an automatic car wash. It really wasn't funny. I mean, she acted like she was going to pass out. I felt sorry for her, even though I don't understand that particular claustrophobic type reaction.

I've had inner ear infections, so I understand the vertigo. But I would never have thought that you could get it in a car wash...

I guess she'll never go there again.

The next book I'll be reading

A

fter finishing Double Cross by James Patterson, will be Brother Odd by Dean Koontz.

I've read the other books in the series, Odd Thomas and Forever Odd. I didn't even know about Brother Odd before we went to the library on Thursday.

I like reading books that are in a series. It's like seeing a good friend and catching up on what's been happening in their life since the last time you saw each other, nodamene?

Thomas is a 20 something fry cook and seems to have no ambition to change that. What's "odd" about him is that he sees dead people. He sees the good and the bad (called "bodachs"). The only people who know about this are his girlfriend and his best friend, who happens to be the Police Chief.

I think you can see where this is going. When Thomas sees bodachs, it's a warning of trouble brewing. So, with the help of the Police Chief and GF, he tries to stop the bad things before they happens, or at least help make it not as bad as it would have been without his intervention.

If you like science fiction or even mysteries, you should definitely check out this series of books.

I'll let you know what I think after I read it. :-)

You didn't finish your soda!!!!!!

A

long time I switched from sugar to Splenda for everything except baking. I made the switch because I realized that I was drinking about 2 cups of sugar a day in my Kool Aid. But before I made the switch, whenever Evan and I went to Mommy Dearest's house for dinner, I had to drink diet sodas.

They always tasted odd. Whatever it was, it was nasty.

One weird thing is that when I was growing up, she only drank Pepsi and Sprite before she found out she was diabetic. After that, she said she liked Sierra Mist better than Diet Sprite (Now called Sprite Zero).

I HATE cola drinks. They make my teeth feel dirty. I don't know why. But I can have smooth, glassy feeling teeth & then after I drink a cola, they feel furry. Like after I pet a dog, my hands feel like they have an oily coating until I wash them.

Whatever, I'm not talking about my psychoses. The point is that I never finished the sodas and she would complain that we were wasting them. I still don't like Sierra Mist, and I don't do cola. She'd go ON and ON about it. I finally started bringing my own drinks so I wouldn't have to hear her mouth if I didn't finish it. Not to mention that I KNEW that I would like whatever I was drinking.

I'd almost rather be parched than drink something I don't like.

So when she came by last Thursday with her Chinese food, she had the option to drink one of my diet drinks. I have Peach Citrus Fresca, Sprite Zero, Tropicana Orangeade, Diet Ginger Ale & Evan has Diet Barq's Root Beer. She picked the Fresca.

After she left, I noticed that she had left her can of unfinished soda on my bookcase. So I called her.

Me - You didn't finish your soda.
MD - LOL! I knew that's why you were calling, to get me back for when I used to say that to you.
Me - Well, I'm NEVER giving you one of those sodas again!
MD - Good! It was too peachy.
Me - I just can't believe you wasted one of my sodas. Those are my favorite sodas. And I still haven't forgiven you for eating my last Reese's cup!
MD - Well, eating only one will mess up your mouth!

I buy snack packs of candy for my candy addiction. I eat only one snack sized Reese's cup, or only one snack sized Twix bar, or only 8 Dark chocolate pomegranate things. That way, I get to eat what I want, but I don't have 500 empty calories, KWIM?

She thinks that if it's sold with 2, you have to eat both at the same time.

I will not get into that.

Let's just say that I will never let her forget that she wasted a soda at my house! :-)
