I was just thinking...

Feeling Normal

S

ince, once again I was adding all of my music to iTunes, how much I love "Try Again" by Aaliyah.

Other ones too, like Are you that somebody? & More than a Woman.

I just miss her.I wish she hadn't died so early in her career. I wonder what type of music she'd be making now? Or would she be all up in movies like other musicians turned actor. (Ice Cube & Queen Latifah are the only ones I can think of now, but I KNOW there are more.)

AaliyahI just miss her. The music of hers that I do like has stood the test of time.

I mean, more than 12 years later I'm still listening to and enjoying "Are you that somebody?"

Are there any musicians you miss because you know they would have had great careers if they hadn't ended so early?

Please don't say Elvis or Michael Jackson. I'm sure some of you miss them too, but I think their careers were pretty phenomenal anyway...

Discuss.

Song of the Week - 8/12/08

T

his week's song is "Ain't Love Strange" by Paul Thorn.

Because I realized I hadn't changed the Song of the Week since "I kissed a girl" and I'm tired of kissing girls. Listen & enjoy! :-)

Random Thoughts - 6/28/08

W

hat ever happened to Terence Trent D'arby?

I was just listening to my R&B playlist on I-tunes and realized that I haven't heard from him in forever.

OMG. I just found this site. He's flipped out just like Prince did, LOL. "a mystical experience with dreams" made him decide to change his name to Sananda Maitreya.

WTFever.

----------------
Listening to: Terence Trent D'arby - Rain via FoxyTunes

The other day the cable went out. Internet too. But it went out at 11:30 pm. Which is 5 minutes before Craig Ferguson comes on. Why does Charter hate me? It went out right before Craig a couple of days. Luckily, I had so much shit recorded that I still had stuff to watch, but WHY doesn't it go out earlier or later??? Why only when Craigie is on?

When I called the cable company, 3 things irritated me:

1. The damned computer. I refuse to talk to a computer. I constantly repeat "Operator" or "Agent" until the computer says "Ok. I understand that you'd like to talk to an agent. I will transfer you now."

2. When I call, I have to enter my phone number so that they can pull up my acct information. But then as soon as an agent gets on the line, they ask me for my phone number again. Why can't this information pop up on the effing computer screen so I'm not repeating myself 12 times?

3. After the dude asked for my phone # for the third time & entered my information, he came back on the line and said "I don't know if what I'm about to tell you is good news or bad news."

Then he paused.

Me - Just tell me.
Dude - Well, after I entered your info, the screen went blank and they have officially declared an outage in your area.
Me - Which means what?
Dude - That you must have been the 3rd person to call and report it, so now it's an emergency and some technicians will be out to fix the outage ASAP.
Me - They work at this time of night?
Dude - Well, I don't know about your specific area, some of them do. But regardless, they will be out first thing in the morning before it gets hot.
Me - Ok. Thanks.

Why the hell did he pause before telling me that? There's nothing that I can do about my cable & internet being out no matter what. I know that it being declared an outage is better than having to wait for 3 days for someone to come out and switch my DVR.

Was he bracing himself in case I started yelling? What good would that do?

*rolling eyes*

FYI - Cable came back on 30 minutes after Craig went off.

....

*sigh*

Assassinate by Nyhm

H

ave you seen this? I put it on my other blog. Evan is always looking for Ninja crap & whatever boys who aren't yet masturbating (as far as I know) look for. He bookmarked about 30 (thirty) things for me to see. Finally last night I watched a few of them just so he'd SHUT UP about it.

I LOVE IT!

There are lyrics on the video, but I'm so in to the beat that I haven't really paid attention. With a title like "Assassinate" they can't be good, but whatever. It's my jam! When I heard the first few words, I instantly thought of Angela Bassett in "What's Love got to do with it?". But I got over that pretty quickly, LOL.

I just wish I had that kind of creativity! To write music like that. I'm not vouching for the rapping (although he does have a good flow). In my next life, I want to be the female Timbaland/Pharell.

When I was watching some of his bookmarks (like the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" song) I saw a very obese girl in the side. I asked him if he'd watched that and he said "That's just sad."

Me - Are you being facetious?
Evan - No, it's really sad.

So of course, I watched about 10 seconds of it.

The girl is 7 years old and 400 lbs. It IS sad. I don't know why her parents (or whatever kind of people she lives with) would put that on youtube. It's not funny. It just makes you feel sorry for the girl and angry with her "caregivers". WTF???

Anyway, that's all for now.

Song of the Week - 6/8/08

Song of the Week - 5/26/08

T

his week's song is a song that brings back memories.

Not good memories.

But I still like the song "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard.

When I first moved here (here being the south), I was 15 years old. I got my first crush at my new high school. A white boy who shall remain nameless. I don't remember if I wrote him a note telling him that I liked him, or told one of his friends to tell him.

I do remember that he sent me a note saying that he liked me as a friend, but he didn't like me "that way". But his black friend did.

...

That was when I first thought "Oh, so it's going to be like that down here? I'm only allowed to like black guys?"

HA!

Whatever.

The reason I remember this song in association with that boy is because he told us (a group of girls) that he liked girls who looked like a particular girl in the video.

I'm not bitter, though.

I mean, I hope he's gotten fat and bald, but I hope he's still alive and happens across this blog and remembers how he rejected me.

:-)

Mercy

B

y Duffy. I heard it the other day on The Late Show with David Letterman. Loved it instantly.

Why is it that these British artists like Amy Winehouse & Duffy seem to be bringing back the Motown Sound (IMHO) and everyone in the USA is talking about big butts & "flossing"?

Whatever. Check it out!

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

I'm tired, y'all.

I woke up this morning at 5:30 or something after a very restless night.

I've been up all day.

Washing dishes.

Vacuuming.

Dropping cards.

Playing Mario Party, LOL.

MD came over at about 11:30 & invited me & Evan to dinner. She said she tried to find the cut of beef that I like for roast beef, but she couldn't so she was going to make some meatloaf & real mashed potatoes for ME.

We took a load of red clothes to her house to wash.

We had I had meat loaf, bbq ribs, mashed potatoes & green cabbage with red pepper flakes.

Evan had Meatloaf, corn, meatloaf, potatoes & meatloaf. I think he ate a single bite of cabbage. When he was a toddler, he loved boiled cabbage so MD used to make it for him all the time. I cook it with butter & salt, she cooks it with sugar & red pepper. I think he's gotten used to my cooking so he's not really into the way she cooks the cabbage anymore.

Anyway, since the pollen turned my car yellow, we took some allergy pills before we went outside (thank God Evan reminded me or I'd have been sneezing up a storm) but with the combination of carbs & allergy pills, I've been ready for a nap for a few hours. I just didn't want to go to sleep too early & wake up in the middle of the night.

I did remember to put some of that Icy Hot gel on my knees before I left. (I LOVE that stuff. It works so well on my arthritis pain!) But since MD had her freaking doors open instead of the A/C, it was hot in there, so I laid on the floor because it was cooler.

Before I went there, my retarded knee was hurting more (My left leg is the one I have to drag. The one that bounces up & down like I'm nervous or impatient all the time.) But I had to get on my knees to get up off of the floor & now my right one is hurting.

And I forgot to put the ICY Hot on my back. She has that really squishy furniture that you just sink into. Which is NOT good for my back.

Whatever.

I forgot what I was going to say.

Oh! Once a month (or so) I tape the VH1 countdown to see if there are any new songs I want. I decided to tape the BET top 10 countdown yesterday.

1) I like the dude in Mariah Carey's video (Touch my body). But the song is a little creepy.

2) Ray J (Brandy's brother & Kim Kardashian's sex tape partner) had a song on there that was so laced with profanity that they had to bleep practically every word. Even Snoop doesn't say things that filthy. I don't even know what the song was about there was so much bleeped out. It's a waste of air time, IMO.

You know how comedians like Bill Cosby said that if you couldn't be funny without cussing, then you weren't funny? Well I think if you have to put out something so profanity laced that half of the song is bleeped or muted out, you're trying too hard to be "Gangsta" & you need to go back to making sex tapes because you're not a "real" artist.

Pisses me off.

I'm going to bed.

Bye! :-)

Yeehah! Awesome!

So this morning I dropped about 150 Entrecards (Reciprocating on my Inbox & visiting my favorite EC blogs.)

Got the usual "Thanks!" message.

I usually try to do at least that amount every day. IF I get done early enough & have the energy/motivation, I'll try to reach 300.

You can see that clearly, I don't reach 300 every day. Yesterday, I don't think I even visited all of my favorite blogs, and that was with all of my extra energy, LOL.

Anyway, after this morning's post, I watched all my recorded DVR programs, I took a nap, ate dinner, etc. Finally decided to get my 300 credits for the day.

At some point after 200, I started getting "Yeehah!" as the message. Then after 250 or so, I started getting "Awesome" instead of "Thanks!"

Tomorrow I'm going to have to pay attention to see when the message changes from Thanks to something else. Or if it's already changed for the first drops of the day.

**Update** 10:10 PM

I started dropping on my other account. Here are the messages I've gotten:

50 - Go! Go!
100 - Alright!
150 - Wicked!

I'm done now. And I have to tinkle. But I think that's it. After 200 it will go to Yeehah! & Wicked! :-)

Here are the lyrics to Snoop Dogg's "My Medicine". Just thought you'd enjoy reading them, even if you haven't heard the song yet.

(One, two...)

[Intro: Snoop]
Yeah, I like to dedicate this record right here to my main man
Johnny Cash, a real American gangster
I got my nephew Whitey Ford on the guitar
Young Trev' on the drums
Grand Ole Opry, here we come, uhh

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jacked up the spoon on the candlestick
Dopestick pimpin on the one-trick pony
Yeah she kinda skinny but she gets my money
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine

Yeah, you know I got to have that medicine
That prescription medicine baby
Y'know, purple, orange, green

Jack starts hangin 'round with some fiends
Got strung out, sold the cow for beans
Told young wifey, "I love ya honey
But you gotta hit the streets, go and get my money"
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine

Yeah, the mo' dedicated the mo' medicated
Can you feel me?

[Snoop - singing]
Girl my love's gonna last, just as long as my high
(And I'm high all day, every day)
You can trust every word I'm gonna say will be a lie

[Snoop - talking]
Haha, yeah I lie sometimes
What's the use of the truth if you can't get a lie sometimes baby?
Now dig this

Jack starts a track up and down the hill
Got to walkin thinkin ace what he told to Jill
Come rain, come shine, come snow or if it's sunny
Get the fuck out, come and get my money
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine
Get my money, buy my medicine
Buy my medicine, buy my medicine

Yeah
They say you can't buy me love, but you damn sure can buy me bud

[Snoop - singing]
Girl my love's gonna last, just as long as my high
(Oh I'm so high right now, how 'bout you?)
You can trust every word I'm gonna tell you is a lie
(Liar liar, haha, pants on fire)
Girl I love you (I love you though)
Yeahhhh!

From azlyrics.com

Evan likes the song, LOL. That & "So much betta" by Janet Jackson. He does a new "car" dance for "My Medicine" & 'The Rob & Big Car Dance' (From when they were getting the car washed & some Julio Iglesias song came on the radio.) to "So Much Betta"

I found this rather irritating remix of the car wash dance scene from Rob & Big. I couldn't find the original. :-( But watch at least until Rob starts slamming back & forth in the car seat. That's what Evan does to "So Much Betta".

Got me going

I have totally fallen in love with Got Me Going by Making the Band's Day 26.

Diddy,

"Day 26" is a totally random & stupid name for a band. I understand that after "Danity Kane" you might be reluctant to let the band pick their own name, but surely you could have come up with something better than "Day 26".

WTF?

And do you HAVE to be on ALL the songs of ALL the Bad Boy Artists? If you didn't crack me up so much with your ridiculous behavior and "Breaking News" announcements about Bitchassness, I might grow to intensely dislike you, LOL.

Sincerely,
A Bad Boy Fan in spite of myself

Watch the video. The dude (second to last to sing a verse) in the tan leather jacket. Q?

If I were 20 years younger, I'd have posters of him all over my walls. He's a cutie.

I KNEW she couldn't stay away!

Mommy Dearest came over today & asked me to burn a CD for her.

Among the songs the wanted:

  1. Lean wit it, Rock Wit it - Dem Franchise Boyz

  2. Crank that - Soulja Boy

  3. Get Low - Flo Rida

  4. Rehab - Amy Winehouse

I told her that she was too old to be listening to that music. ;-)

Then, of course, she had to watch Al.

I don't know when she left because I was sleeping.

I just thought it was funny that my mother likes Soulja Boy, LOL.

I LOVE The Puppini Sisters!!!

Ok, one of my occasional guilty pleasures is Perez Hilton.

I don't really care about the celeb shit, but sometimes he has music on there.

I have INSTANTLY fallen in love with the Puppini Sisters.

I don't know what genre of music this is, technically. But do you remember the Andrews Sisters? Now imagine them singing Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" or The Bangles "Walk Like an Egyptian".

AWESOME!

Am I the only one?

I recorded VH1's Storytellers - Mary J. Blige

Am I the only one who thinks she can't sing live?

She is ALWAYS flat.

I've seen her on the Grammys & other award shows.

Every time, people in the audience (like Elton John) are like "She killed it!"

No.

Why is everyone, apparently, hearing something that I'm not hearing???

I think she must need a lot of help in the studio. She does make some awesome tracks. A few of my favorites are "Just Fine", "Family Affair" and "Real Love".

But even when she does those songs live, she sounds flat.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the show. I liked hearing the stories behind them. I like her personality.

I just want to hear her AFTER the producers have fixed it all up.

She's not the only one. A lot of people suck live.

But Mariah Carey does not (I still listen to her Unplugged CD). Amy Winehouse doesn't enunciate, but she's on pitch (when she's not high). Prince can sing live. (I just don't like the way he changes the songs all the time.)

Mary J. is just the only one I can think of right now because she's the last performer I've seen "live".

But a lot of these singers get off pitch when they start trying to be Aretha Franklin or somebody.

Stop.doing.that!

Sing the damned song. Nothing fancy. Your "friends" (whose salary you are doubtless paying) will tell you that you were awesome. A lot of your fans think you can do no wrong.

But I won't lie to you.

You don't even have to pay me to tell the truth.

I know you make your real money on tour, but you need to invest some of that money into singing lessons.

Seriously.

I don't know if you noticed, but I added a "Song of the Week" to my blog.

It's up at the top of my left sidebar.

I got the idea from Skittles. :-)

The best part, it doesn't play until YOU press play. (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!)

That's all. I have a headache...

About yesterday's Thursday 30 & Whatnot

Do you know what I realized yesterday?

A LOT of my favorite Prince songs were not on there!

I finally realized that I had basically only imported "The Hits" CDs and whatever MD had brought over here for me to burn a copy for her.

!!!!!!!!!!

So I imported ALL of my Prince CDs, LOL. (Well, all of them that I really like, meaning pre-"Lost my effing mind so I'm changing my name from TAFKAP back to Prince & becoming a Jehovah's Witness Prince".

Wheeeeeeeee!

I haven't heard some of these songs in so long!

It's like seeing an old friend.

I realized why my back has been hurting sooooooo bad.

(Guys might want to skip to the next section).

It was my freaking period.

I honestly don't keep up with it when I'm not having sex, LOL.

That isn't really funny.

The other day, MD & I were in the car & I was talking about how I wish I could have a fucking hysterectomy because my period is just irritating.

MD - Well, I remember the days when getting my period was a relief.
Me - Well since I'm NOT GETTING ANY, I don't need that particular relief right now!

Anyway, with the combination of xanax & sleeping so much, I thought that was the problem.

But then I was surprised (unpleasantly) yesterday with the arrival of the Evil Aunt Flo.

Last night my back was hurting so bad that I had Evan rub my ENTIRE BACK with Ben Gay.

I kept telling him to rub harder on my lower back.

I finally said "Act like you're trying to shave my skin off with your hands!!!"

I think he was afraid of hurting me.

Then I told him to sit on my back, LOL.

The pressure felt sooooooooooo gooooooood.

Then when I wanted to breath again, I had him rub Active On on my lower back & laid on the heating pad.

Thanks!

Saturday 9

Name that tune

1. What was the first CD/LP that you ever purchased? Culture Club - Colour by Numbers.

2. Are you still a fan of that group or artist? I still have some of the songs on my itunes.

3. What was the latest CD/mp3's you've purchased? Entire CD? Probably Elliot Yamin. I was disappointed. :-(

4. Is there an artist or band that you relate to more than any other?
It was Prince when I was younger. Now? I don't know that I "relate" to any specific artist/group more than any other. But I am more into rap/hip hop than ever.

5. What is your favorite song currently? Feedback. Sounds AWESOME when you're listening to it very loud in the car, LOL.

6. What band or artist do you think has had the most influence over the years? Influence on me? None. I am not a Jehovah's Witness just because Prince is. (But can you believe some JW tried to sway me with that?? Prince has lost his mind...) Influence on the world? No idea. The STYLE of music that has had the most impact (good or bad) is definitely Rap.

7. Is there a band or artist that you love, but is a "guilty pleasure"? If yes, who? I don't feel guilty for the music that I enjoy. At the most, I'll feel embarrassed that I like certain songs. (Britney Spears. But it's her producers. She CANNOT SING!)

8. Is there a band or artist that you hate, but most people seem to love? Britney Spears, LOL. John Legend. That black dude that pulls the underage girls on stage and humps them, I don't know his name. I do not like men with high voices. Falsetto is one thing, but that dude is over the top.

9. What is your favorite CD/LP of all time? I'll say Purple Rain because I've probably listened to it more than any other Album/CD I own.

I love Big Band!

I was watching Rose Red yesterday. Captions on.

One of the things about Closed Captioning that I adore is that when music starts (usually), they tell you the name of the song.

I've heard a lot of Moonlight Serenade on movies and tv, but I didn't know what it was called.

Now I know. The Glen Miller Orchestra.

I've always liked big band music. I think that's why I like Harry Connick Jr. He sounds like Big Band to me.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I can always find cool music in Stephen King Movies/Miniseries. :-)
