The Family that Preys

T

yler Perry has a new movie opening on September 12. It's called "The Family that Preys". I just WATCHED THE TRAILER. It looks interesting!

Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, Sanaa Latham, KaDee Strickland,Robin Givens, and Rockmond Dunbar (to name a few) are in it!

This looks completely different from the other stuff he's done. I don't expect a recycling of old jokes in this. It looks like a DRAMA! (Yay!!!)

I'm so excited for this. :-) Go Tyler!

For all you Tyler Perry Fans

H

e is one of the finalists to be one of Time Magazines 100 most influential people of 2008.

You can vote for him HERE.

There are other people too, of course, like Oprah. I voted her least influential even though, unfortunately, she'll probably end up in the top 10 or some shit.

You can vote as many times as you want!

Check out the entire list if you have the patience, I DO NOT so I only clicked until I saw Mr. Perry.

That is all.

**Update 4/21/08** - I noticed a lot of spam comments on Time's site when I was looking for TP. I guess if Time Magazine isn't immune to the occasional idiot, I should consider myself lucky that I haven't had more spam.

Why did I get married?

So I got this for Mommy Dearest's birthday. I also got a copy for myself.

It is SO GOOD! I liked the play and I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the movie.

Madea's Family Reunion & Diary of a Mad Black Woman were also plays first & then turned into movies & I liked the plays better.

Of course, there were changes from the play. But I was ok with these changes, LOL.

I'm just going to tell you a little bit because I want you to SEE THIS MOVIE.

4 couples have been friends since college. Every year, they go on a "Couples Retreat".

The couples are:

Janet Jackson & Malik Yoba
Tyler Perry & Sharon Leal
Jill Scott & Richard T Jones
Michael Jai White & Tasha Smith

So, it starts with all the couples showing up at the cabin in the mountains. We'll say Colorado because I don't really remember where they went & it's not important, LOL.

Jill Scott invites her best single friend to come along. The friend (henceforth known as Skanky Ho) sits beside Jill's husband on the plane. Jill sits beside some man who complains that she's too big & so she had to get off of the plane because she didn't purchase 2 seats for herself.

Now, this is just me, but if they told me that I had to get off the plane, my husband WOULD be coming with me. But no, the asshole husband just says stuff like "Well, she can drive. Or maybe she should walk & lose some of that weight."

So Jill leaves her husband & Skanky Ho on the plane to drive herself up to the mountains.

In the cabin we find out what all the couple's problems are.

Tyler Perry wants another child.
Tasha Smith drinks too much & her husband has VD and hasn't told her.
Janet Jackson & her hubby are supposed to be the perfect couple.

One night, Tasha has just enough to drink to tell Jill Scott that her husband is sleeping with Skanky Ho. Then ALL the secrets come out.

These are the changes I was talking about. That dinner scene was AWESOME!

My favorite part was when Jill Scott smacks the fuck out of her asshole husband with a bottle of wine, LOL.

Janet Jackson gave an incredible performance. Really. I didn't know she had it in her. Jill Scott was phenomenal too.

That is all.

Because even though I laid on the heating pad for hours, my back is still hurting.

And just in case you were wondering, Mommy Dearest had a great birthday. She received calls from ALL of her children & ALL of her friends. I even said "I love you, Momma" when I called after Evan dropped off her cards & present.

But only because it was her birthday....

Tyler Perry has an online Talk Show

See it HERE, if you're interested.

OMG. I'm watching this as I post.

He's got a "Tyler Perry Idol" type thing in part one. Around 3:50 in the first video... Ew. Seriously, WTF is wrong with some people thinking they can sing???

I just noticed that there's no way to FF this shit.

IMO, unless you REALLY LOVE Tyler Perry & every single thing he does...don't waste your time.

There's a reason this is on the web & not on TV. (And it has NOTHING to do with his busy schedule.) It's boring.

He said some chick was watching this at work and laughing her ass off??

Suck up. She just wants to get next to him and that bootie. Because he is a nice looking man. But he's not ALWAYS funny.

I shouldn't even post this link, LOL.

House of Payne

Well, tonight was the premier of Tyler Perry's House of Payne.

Here's a one word review: *sigh*

It was very disappointing. It wasn't funny AT ALL. I didn't LOL once. In fact, the longer I watched, the more pissed off I got.

I'm used to him using the same recycled jokes in his plays. But these jokes were juvenile and not funny.

I enjoy juvenile sometimes. As long as it's funny.

I noticed on the second episode, it was written by someone other than Tyler Perry. So she (I think it was a she) is trying to sound like him, but it's not working.

And there was no message.

I also noticed that the wife of one of the characters is always late/missing, so I assume she's cheating.

COME ON. Why telegraph this shit in the first episode??? This is not a Tyler Perry play.

The gimmick in the first episode was to have Madea do a guest spot. BUT that didn't work either.

I think Tyler Perry is used to doing Madea at live performances. He breaks the 4th wall. I love that. With TV, he has to be a lot more constrained.

Whatever, man. There was so much wrong with this and I'm so disappointed.

The actors playing the parents of the 2 kids look way too young to have a son that age. (He looks about 12). The woman playing his mother looks like a teenager herself.

The girl playing the daughter was smiling BEFORE her punchline.

Pops & his wife (who I LOVE from the plays) were not funny. :-(

It sucked.

And it pains me to say it.

I find it hard to believe that these episodes are supposed to be better than whatever was tested in Atlanta last year (or whenever). I can't believe it got picked up.

Did anybody else see this shit?

This is the part!

My favorite part from Madea Goes to Jail.

Evan and I have been having a Madeathon today. :-)

Make sure you watch Part 2!

Madea

I LOVE Madea.

Anyway, I just re-watched that video clip from The Money Pit (previous post) and decided to search for Madea.

Here's one I found.

I've never seen a Tyler Perry Play that didn't have that speech from "The Color Purple in it somewhere. It woudln't be Madea if he couldn't fit it into The Black Movie awards somewhere. (he was hosting)

I think this is my favorite Tyler Perry Play. "Madea's Class Reunion"

I often wonder if people who aren't black get all of the pop culture references in his plays. Comment if you don't know WTF he's doing/talking about when he's talking to the chick on the settee, please.

From "Why did I get married?"

From "Madea goes to jail". This is the first time we (the audience) had ever heard Tyler Perry sing. Usually I FF through the songs in his plays, because they're religious and/or stuff that's before my time. But in this play there's a scene where everybody sings (not all at the same time) and those are songs that I know and can sing along to. :-) This clip is just Madea singing, though.

THIS is why I watch Tyler Perry plays. There's always has a lesson in there. I still haven't accepted the "Forgiveness" lesson, but I'm working on it.
