Growing up Twisted

Feeling Normal

T

his week, after seeing Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister fame) on The Wendy Williams show, I decided to check out his new reality show on A&E (Tuesdays at 10/9c).

The quick and dirty review is that they are the Osbournes without the addiction problems or yelling.

:-)

There is a lot of crying.

Mama starts to cry when she thinks one of her kids has gotten a tattoo because it's "so white trash"

The 13 year old girl throws a fit when they take apart her rusty trampoline for their granddaughter's christening.

Dee Snider & FamilyMama cries after she realizes that removing the tat of Dee's name from her shoulder really hurt him, so she gets another tat.

The oldest son cries when he sings to his baby at the christening. (It was emotional. I even teared up a bit.)

Um, I'm sure there was more crying.

The kids are totally disgusted by the fact that after 34 years, their parents still have sex and their mother dyes her pubic hair.

Son A - Mom, who does this? No one even has pubic hair anymore!
Dee - That's something new. The old schoolers all have pubic hair.

They're a funny family. And, as Dee said on Wendy, none of his 4 kids have been arrested for DUI or gone to rehab.

If you liked The Osbournes or Gene Simmon's Family Jewels, you will like this too.

Obsessed

Feeling Surprised

O

MLY, I just watched Obsessed on A&E.

It's a show about people with OCD and they get therapy to get over their obsessions. It's like Intervention for people with OCD. The first episode showed Helen & Scott.

"I mean, I still like to eat my M&Ms according to color from least to greatest, but I'm not checking the fucking alarm clock 50 times an hour."Scott had the OCD that we (probably) always think of. He was germ obsessed. He wouldn't have any garbage cans in his house (he took trash straight out to the garbage can in the back yard), he wouldn't hang up towels in his house (because he'd use them and put them directly in the washer), he couldn't have a real relationship.

His therapist exposed him to his "triggers" and after 3 months, he was finally living with his BF and NOT obsessing about everything. When his therapist came over for one of his "exposure" days, she told him she was on her period and had to use his bathroom. She made him find something as a trash can so she could put her "used" tampon in there.

After he got rid of the trash, she made him touch the basket that she had used as a trash can, put the clean towels in the basket & then touch them to his face, and not wash his hands or the bathroom.

You know he was freaking the fark out, LOL.

Helen was afraid of driving on the highway. Her father died from a bus crash about 2 years after her mother died of cancer.

She kept the clothes he died in, blood and all, and would wear them. She did the repetitive checking of alarm clocks, locks, stove burners, even asking her 3 children over and over again if they were wearing their seat belts.

I joke about being OCD. I mean, I am a little anal. Compared to the people I saw tonight, I am the most well adjusted human being EVER, thankya Jaysus.

I mean, I still like to eat my M&Ms according to color from least to greatest, but at least I'm not checking the fucking alarm clock 50 times an hour.

Whew.

Anyway, I don't like to end on a low note (inside joke), so here's a rap from "The Mighty Boosh". It comes on Sundays at 1 am on Cartoon Network. If you haven't seen it, watch it. You can watch it on youtube, I guess.

It's almost 4 am, and I'm still awake.

:-(

*sigh*

This is one of the few times I've watched ALL the shows that my DVR recorded on the same night that they were recorded. I've even watched some shows that I would not have otherwise watched.

Billy BrethertonI saw "The Exterminators" for the first time. There were 3 episodes in a row. It's about a family that has an extermination business in Louisiana. The main guy, Billy, is an animal lover so he'd rather trap than kill. He works there along with his mom, dad, wife, brother and sometimes his brother's ex-wife that everyone in the family hates.

The thing that made me decide to record the series was when Billy had to get rid of a 7 foot beehive and instead of the usual white bee keeper suit, he pulls out black leather, a black feather boa and a black skull Halloween mask.

It's like a rock star on a reality show & a soap opera (with Billy's ex-SIL) rolled into one. Check it out!

What else did I watch?

I don't even remember.

God.

I had to go to Wal-mart today and it seems like every child under 5 was in there screaming.

I should know better than to go to ANY store on the first of the month, because that's when all the SS and Disability checks come, so everyone shops on those days.

Nauseous GirlI had a headache when I went there, but by the time I left I just wanted to cry. Or vomit. Or both.

I'm tired of this shit. All week I've been nauseous. Like "I can barely eat sick to my stomach" and I don't know why. I finally took a phenergan tonight to help with the nausea, which usually knocks me out. No such luck tonight.

The good news is that if I stay sick like this for the rest of the month, I should be able to get back into my "skinny jeans" which are NOT skinny. Just skinny for me, LOL.

I wish I could throw up, though. I usually feel better after I throw up.

*cries*

Audition by Barbara WaltersI'm going to try and finish Audition tonight. I'm up to the George W. years... The writing doesn't look small, but it's taking me a long ass time to get through this book even though I read at least 50 pages a day. I would have been done with a Harry Potter book last week and this book has about 200 fewer pages than the average HP novel.

I also got a novel by Kathy Reichs (?) the one on whom the show "Bones" is based. That writing is extremely small. I read a few chapters.

!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe that's what gave me the damed headache that I've had forever in the first place!!

My eyes are getting old.

I'm out!

No sleep & new TV show

I

don't know what happened to me this weekend. But last night I didn't get to sleep. I didn't sleep until 10 am this morning.

So I ended up watching "Why I Ran" on A&E. The show is so old, apparently, that they don't even have a page for it. You can search their site to see when it comes on next, but there are no clips or anything of the show.

Anyway, the show is about the people who get into those high speed chases with the police. They tell why they ran, what was going through their minds at the time, and they see video of their chase.

People are so stupid.

I already knew this, but this show just...oh my lord.

One woman had 3 of her 5 children in the car. She ran because she knew she had some unpaid speeding tickets and figured that they had turned into warrants. She didn't want her kids to see her getting arrested. So she took them on an 80 mph chase with the kids telling her not to pull over and then ended up stopping and getting 2 years in jail away from the precious babies 'she would never put in danger'.

For some traffic violations.

Another show had a grandfather who knew he had some warrants, so when he was pulled over he gave his brother's name and SSN. Then he decided to run. Because he didn't want to go back to jail...

A different episode showed a man, 22 years old now, who had been a great student. He graduated HS at 16 and went to college for 2 years. He wanted to be a role model for his younger brother because their father had left. One day he steals a car & then picks up his brother for a joy ride. He was drunk. He totaled 3 cars. Went to jail for 9 months.

Um, this is just my opinion, but not wanting to go to jail does not mean you should run from the police. They will find you because, IMO, criminals are stoopid. So after they find you, you have all kinds of additional charges on top of whatever they had been going to give to you when they first turned on the siren.

You total some cars. You might kill someone. I'm sure you don't have insurance.

*sigh*

Now I have even more reason not to leave the house because I never know when some idjit is going to decide to run from "da po-po" and put my life in danger.

Psych.

It's not going to change the way I live my life, but lordamercy. Every time I think I know how retarded people can be, I see another reality show that shows me "No, people are more retarded than you ever imagined."

New Reality Shows!

The Cho Show on VH1 (Thursdays @ 11pm EST) starring Margaret Cho.

There are so many new shows coming on this season that I don't even know about most of them. The Cho Show is one of them. Luckily, I happened to catch the beginning of the premier episode. Margaret was winning the Korean of the Year award. She didn't know if she even wanted to go to the awards because for her entire career, she's felt like Koreans hated her. She wasn't, according to them, Korean enough. I can totally identify with that, because black people (when I was in Jr. High & High School in Maryland) told me that I wasn't black enough.

As if anyone looking at me wouldn't instantly categorize me as black. But apparently you aren't black if you don't speak ebonics & have hair styles that are in "Black Hair" magazine.

Whatever.

I really enjoyed the show & Margaret. I will be recording the entire season (which will be too short). I never knew anything about her except that she made fun of her mom in her act (her parents are in the show too, so we finally get to hear her mother, LOL.)

Loved it! Here's a clip.

Next was Glam God starring Vivica A. Fox on VH1 (Thursdays at 10 pm EST)

It's like Project Runway for Fashion Stylists. Wasn't blow away by it. It looks like a show for Vivica Fox to show off all of her wigs & outfits. I don't think I'll be watching it again unless nothing else is on. Here's the trailer...

Next was Jacked on A&E (Thursdays at 10 pm EST) about the Auto Theft Task Force in Newark, New Jersey (at least, I think it's in only one town).

I don't know what to say about this. It was not as exciting interesting, to me, as Parking Wars. But it was...ok. I guess if you like Cops, you might like this? I don't know. I'll watch it if nothing else is on.

There was no easy way for me to embed a video clip of the show, so you'll have to go to the site to check it out.

The last new show I saw was The Principal's Office on TruTV (Thursdays at 9 pm EST).

Loved it! I really admire people who work in the educational field, because I could not do it without getting arrested. Principal Steve Halter (Booneville High School in Arkansas) could be any principal in my town. There are 2 other principals (I think) one in Connecticut & one in New Jersey.

I will definitely be recording this season. And making Evan watch it too to see what kind of stupid crap can get you into trouble and tell him not to do it, LOL.

If you have children, or have ever been a child you should definitely check it out. It's very entertaining and educational too! :-)

That is all!

The Cleaner

I

just finished watching "The Cleaner", a new TV show on the A&E network. (Tuesdays at 10 pm EST)

I only heard about it last week or something when Benjamin Bratt was on The View. He's a beautiful man, so I watched the interview, LOL.

Bratt plays William Banks. Banks was a heroin addict. When his youngest child was being born, he was in the hospital shooting up. He made a bargain with God that if he could live through the night, he would become God's "Avenging Angel" and help other addicts to get clean. He is still living with his wife and 2 children, although he sleeps in a separate bedroom. His family realize that he's doing important work, but they still haven't forgiven him for all the times he was in jail or rehab.

Gil Bellows (One of the dudes from Ally McBeal) does a guest appearance as one of Banks' team members. He ends up killing himself at the end of the episode because his wife won't take him back, even though he's been clean for quite a while. Sorry for blowing the secret. But I thought it was odd that Bellows was not listed as a cast member when he was all up in the premier episode...

Other cast members include:

Grace Park as Akani Cuesta. She's the daughter of a wealthy businessman. She has slept with Banks at some point. She's very sexual (I don't know if that's the right word.) Stereotypical "Bad Girl", IMO. I'm sure we'll find out more about why she doesn't want her father's money in later episodes.

Kevin Michael Richardson as Darnell McDowell. We don't know much about him except that he works as a car salesman and he wants to work for Banks. By the end of the episode (after Bellows kills himself) he gets the job.

Esteban Powell as Arnie Swenton. His character still seems like he might be using, LOL. All I know is that he got arrested by a new police officer in the first episode, made some crack about Banks sleeping with Cuesta, got fired & got re-hired by the end of the episode.

The show is okay... It's no Saving Grace. But it was only the first episode. They had to introduce all of the characters and give a little hint about the back story. I think it should have at least been a 2 hour premier. Maybe it would have gotten more in depth with the characters?

Anyway, I'll give it a few more episodes. Well, at least one, to see if it gets any better. Benjamin Bratt is cute. But not cute enough for me to take up space on my DVR just to look at him for 45 minutes... (The show is an hour, but minus commercials it's about 40-45 minutes.)

I wouldn't re-arrange my DVR schedule to record it at this point.

We shall see. *shrugs*
