The rest of yesterday

S

o, at about 2pm I decided to get off of the computer because it had started raining and mop buckets and crap were flying past my door.

Then my cousin knocked on my door and told me that she had just picked her son up from school and she would go back to get Evan if I wanted her to.

She said there were 50 or so parents there picking up their kids because the effing superintendent didn't close school. EVERY OTHER COUNTY IN THE TRI STATE AREA CLOSED FOR THE TORNADO WATCH, BUT NOT OUR COUNTY??? Are they waiting for a tornado to hit the fucking school before they close???

This is the same jackass superintendent who didn't call off school the last time it snowed and iced all over the mountain areas. Wait. He did. But he didn't tell the radio or TV stations. The buses just never came...

So anyway, my cousin went to go get Evan.

It was drizzling slightly when she left, it was just really windy.

She said as soon as she and Evan walked out of the school, it started pouring.

She looked like she had jumped into a pool with all of her clothes on, LOL.

The best part was when, as she was telling me that she wanted hazard pay & emotional damage for messing up her hair, the sun came out!

HA!

That was nice of her to go pick him up.

At about 4:30, I gave up trying to stay awake. I set my alarm for 6pm so that I wouldn't sleep too long.

4:45 MD knocks on the door just to make sure we know what day tomorrow is.

Nevermind the fact that I SPOKE TO HER AT 10 THAT SAME MORNING. She said that she felt safe coming over now that I'm on my "Happy Pills" again, LOL. We discussed all the shows we watch in common blah blah, then I decided that since I was awake, I might as well go get her B.day card because I probably won't feel like it tomorrow.

So Evan and I went to Wal-mart. The power went out about 4 times. It wasn't raining, it was just all the freaking wind!

So yeah, today is MD's XX birthday. She claims to be 39+. I'm 36... Her oldest child is 45. That's an interesting trick, huh? But she only looks like she's in her 40s to me. My grandmother is 80something and she looks like a lot of people in their sixties. I think it's all the bologna she eats...

Sike!

I hope I hold up that well when I'm as old as Methuselah. :-)

  1. I read somewhere it skips every third generation. So, like, if your grandmother looks much younger than her real years, and your mother is also youthful-looking, then your GREAT grandmother probably looked really old when she was, say, 37. It just seems to work out that way. I imagine when your great-grandmother would tell people, "I'm 37," they would go, like, "Whoa! No way, hag!" Or similar.

The article I was reading went on to say that it always seems to happen all at once. Like that Dorian Gray dude, only backwards.

It just happens overnight, they say. One morning you get up (like, say, on the day she turned 37) and look in the mirror and PLAM!! a fucking nightmare of baldness and twisted flesh and long hairs growing out of overnight warts. That's just what I read.

  2. I have a friend who is my age and she looks about 50. Her mother looked ancient too, before she died.

I think it's the specific family, not necessarily something that skips a generation in EVERY family.

But thanks for trying to make me paranoid about aging 30 years overnight...

  3. "Trying?" Ha.

I think my work is finished here... :)

PS- They say the more beautiful you are, the worse it hits you when it happens.

    I think you are gorgeous.

  6. Janet - My grandmother eats more bologna than a family of 4, I bet. She doesn't eat much to begin with, so when she can't think of anything she really wants to eat, out comes the bologna & crackers, LOL.
